Item Type: Concertina
End FretsSummary: The post-1848 machine-cut fretwork introduced by Louis Lachenal during his time as Manager at Wheatstone's Conduit St premisesis now the standard format. The frets are now machine-cut, with embouchures for maker's label and for a serial number (both present) End Shape: Hexagonal End Sides: Six End Diameter: 158mm End-Profile: Flat, with chamfered edges. End Material: Single-ply pale and grained rosewood ends, in the post-1848 machine-cut fretwork introduced by Louis Lachenal during his time as Manager at Wheatstone's Conduit St premises. End Bolts: Medium cheese-head brass bolts, once securing the fretwork end to the action frame and bellows, but now damaged: In a rather reckless repair, the fact that 5 of the 6 end-bolts have sheared has been "corrected" by inserting four flat-head wood-screws through the edges of the action board into the bellows-frame; the fret-frame is then secured to the action board by the one remaining functioning bolt, and the trio of fret-securing screws only! Fret Pattern: Post-1848 machine-cut fretwork introduced by Louis Lachenal Label Embouchure Pattern: Oval to RH, scalloped shape to LH Strap Screw-insert type: Inset circular brass disc with one steel securing screw, one at each side. Finger-rest: Standard format curved-end brass finger-rests, with no leather cladding. Three securing screws. Fret Condition: Bolts sheared, two extra screw-holes to RH end, straps absent. Damage Summary: Scuffed bellows, straps missing, many bolts sheared. |
