Reeds and Reed Pans

Reed Pans Summary: Standard Radial pan, with very broad yellow chamois topping, no radial pan-label. Each reed-pan is signed on its inner face "Joseph Scates" in his own hand. Hand-written note-names have been added in pencil to the inner end of each reed area on the inner pan-face, possibly to aid the tuner in allocating reeds to the correct chambers.

Reed Pans Serial Numbers: 537, stamped once in outer top chambers.

Reed Pans Gasketry: Pale yellow Chamois

Reed Pans Right Hand Cross Pieces: RH: 2 cork cross-pieces in small reed-chambers.

Reed Pans Left Hand Cross Pieces: LH: 2 cork cross-pieces in small reed-chambers.

Reeds Summary: Square-end brass beds, with brass tongues, (very broad tongues to bass reeds), secured with two tall and domed brass screws, securing a brass cross-piece: none of the reeds' brass cross-pieces have the "Open-Sides to the screw areas", a feature that has been linked to early parts suppliers and manufacturers such as Nickolds.
