End Frets

Summary: A hand-cut and intricate late Chidley pattern of hexagonal flat three-ply, rosewood with edges clad in an engraved gilt mounting. There is an RH oval embouchure for maker's label and a small scalloped embouchure to LH (but no serial number). The fretwork-frame and action frame are clad in rosewood veneer, and a further hexagon of gilt metal separates the Fret Frame from the Action Frame..

End Shape: Hexagonal

End Sides: Six

End Diameter: 160mm

End-Profile: Flat, with chamfered edges clad in gilt-metal hexagonal mount.

End Material: The fretwork-frame and action frame are clad in rosewood veneer, and a further hexagon of gilt metal separates the Fret Frame from the Action Frame.

End Bolts: Medium-height cheese-head brass bolts, securing the fretwork end to the action frame and bellows.

Fret Pattern: Later Chidley pattern - oval label cartouche, scalloped LH number cartouche.

Label Embouchure Pattern: Oval to RH, small scalloped to LH.

Strap Screw-insert type: Inset circular brass screw-fittings to side, each secured by a single steel screw

Finger-rest: Original gilt-metal engraved curved-end brass finger-rests, with remains of inner face leather cladding to RH rest. Three securing screws.

Fret Condition: Fine

Damage Summary: Case top strap missing, lid hinge damaged.
