Labels and Serial Numbers

Label Within Cartouche on chamois baffle: The oval paper dealer's label is within the RH label cartouche, glued upon the grey glazed fabric sub-fret baffle.

Label Mounted on end: The standard stamp of George Jones usually found on on the hand-bar is not present on this early model.

Serial Number mounted on End: Not on LH baffle.

Serial Number Under Frets: 4631 on inner rim of frets.

Serial Number On Action Board: 4631 on inner and outer faces of action board.

Serial Number On Pans: 4631 on inner face of each pan.

Serial Number On Bellows Frame: 4631 on top corner of bellows-frame.

Dealer's Labels Summary: The instrument bears the Dealer's label of ""E Myers, Manufacturer, 27 Walworth Road S.E., London". According to Wes Williams: "There seem to be two E. Myers associated with concertinas. Edward Myers was a concertina dealer,and in May 1856, having obtained an Interim Order of Protection from Process, he appeared as an Insolvent Debtor at the Court House, Portugal Street. At this time he operated from Mount Street, Whitechapel Road. In the same year, Emanuel Myers is listed at 7A Crown Row,Walworth Rd, and in 1865 we have E. Myers of 1 Black Prince Row, Walworth Rd listed as a musical instrument manufacturer. Entries from 1869 to 1884 give Emanuel Myers at 27 Walworth Rd SE, and instruments bearing this label are reported as being made by George Jones".

Dealer Label: "E Myers, Manufacturer, 27 Walworth Road S.E., London".
