Item Type: Photograph - Concertina Band

Summary

Full Description: A 1913 mounted professional photograph of The New Bedford Concertina Band, Massachusetts, USA. Many of the players were British mill-working lads who had emigrated to work in the cotton mill towns of the north-east of the USA; John Roberts met and interviewed one of the gents in 1974, who dated the picture as 1913, and Alan McCormick, a Derbyshire uniform historian, has dated many of the badges and headgear the bandsmen wore: Their comments are amongst the extra images related to this classic rare image of a US Concertina Band. For another rare image of this Band, with commentary by Dr Tony Barrand, visit: www.concertina.info/tina.faq/images/newbed.htm .
