Item Type: Salvation Army - Postcard of Players

Summary

Full Description: An imposing image of a Salvationist player, on a divided rear, postally-unused card, hand-labelled "Gypsy Smith - concertina" to the rear. The imposing gentleman, in frock-coat, holds a small book, and stands next to a table bearing a Jeffries-style Anglo concertina. Research has divulged that "Gypsy Smith" was a noted Salvationist and concertina player, based both in Devon and in the north Midlands who reached out to gypsy communities especially, but was suspended from the Army at some time. He travelled many time to the USA on mission work. There is a page of notes and further images with this item.
