End Frets

Summary: First appearance in the Collection of the post-1848 machine-cut fretwork introduced by Louis Lachenal during his time as Manager at Wheatstone's Conduit St premises. The frets are now machine-cut, with embouchures for maker's label and for a serial number (both present).

End Shape: Hexagonal

End Sides: Six

End Diameter: 157mm

End-Profile: Flat

End Material: Single-ply rosewood ends, in the post-1848 machine-cut fretwork introduced by Louis Lachenal during his time as Manager at Wheatstone's Conduit St premises.

End Bolts: Tall cheese-head brass bolts, securing the fretwork end to the action frame and bellows.

Fret Pattern: Post-1848 machine-cut fretwork introduced by Louis Lachenal

Label Embouchure Pattern: Oval to RH, scalloped shaped to LH

Strap Screw-insert type: Inset circular brass disc with one steel securing screw one at each side, not used since instrument has later Straps with "West Street" two-hook clasps.

Finger-rest: Standard format curved-end brass finger-rests, with no cladding intact . Central securing screw, with a layer split clasp at either end.

Fret Condition: Fine, high gloss - probably polished at West Srtreet.

Damage Summary: Fine condition, with Wheatstone replacement thumb-straps and bellows
