Reeds and Reed Pans

Reed Pans Summary: Conventional radial pans with the central hole slightly offset towards the chambers: there are 18 Chambers on the RH pan, with only 16 containing reeds, probabaly to permit the design to be used for English concertinas of up to 36 keys. Pan inset flush to bellows-frame, and with narrow dividers clad in the rarely-used white smooth chamois. The pans are flush to the bellows-frame and reed-pans. Small annular central pan label.

Reed Pans Main Labels: Circular small pan label with the wording "Wheatstone & Co, 20 Conduit St., Regent St., London" and "Left." with note-names and reed frame sizes to guide the Wheatstone uning staff. Reed frame sizes are in Arabic Numerals

Reed Pans Stamps: L & R twice

Reed Pans Serial Numbers: 9070 Once

Reed Pans Gasketry: Pan dividers clad in white shiny suede/chamois.

Reed Pans Right Hand Cross Pieces: RH: No cross-pieces.

Reed Pans Left Hand Cross Pieces: LH: No cross-pieces.

Reeds Summary: 64 wedge profiled round-ended brass reed frames, 16 on each side of each reed pan. Round-end frames, with brass tongues each secured by a single large iron/steel domed rivet. Note names stamped on each reed-frame.

Reed Tongue Material: Brass tongues..

Reed Frame Shape: Tapered round-ended brass reed frames

Reed Tongue Profile: parallel

Reed Securing Screws: The Brass reed-tongues each secured by a single large iron/steel domed rivet, another early use in The Collection's Wheatstone concertinas, of these large steel rivets for reed-tongue securing.
