Case and OtherMain Case: Original square case, of velvet-lined plywood clad in stitched brown leather, with inner mounting cradle. Leather front strap, and a pair of simple clasp locks and drop-down clasps on lid edge, with original key. The case contains the original West Street receipt, dated July 8th 1939, showing that the instrument (ref: 127 as in the ledger entry) was paid for in instalments, finishing on 19th August 1940. Main Case Shape: Square case, of velvet-lined plywood clad in stitched brown leather. Main Case Measurement: 248 x 269 x 258mm tall Main Case Material: Square shape, purple velvet lined wood-framed, clad in leather. Main Case Inner Label: A gilt lettered oval red paper label with export variant wording: "Manufacturers of Concertinas and Ĉolas, C. Wheatstone & Co. Ltd., 15, West St, Charing Cross Road, London, England". Main Case Label - Other: A further export-only label is glued within the lid, in rectangular grey paper, cautioning against exposing the instrument to excess heat or humidity. Main Case Lock: Leather front strap, and a plated clasp lock and drop-down clasp on lid edge edge Main Case Hinges: Inner leather hinges to lid. Main Case Straps: Leather front strap, and a plated clasp lock and drop-down clasp on lid edge Outer Case: Complete stout fabric outer vcover, zipped along it to cover, and with a leather mounted aperture for the carrying handle, and leather reinforcements to each corner of the base area. |
