Reeds and Reed PansReed Pans Summary: The reed pan is contructed of a hexagonal array of six sections of wood, glued together, to ensure no warping of this extremely wide pan area. The chambers are arrayed all around the outer edges, mainly in a single width array, but with a double array for the RH bass reeds (this is reflected in the toe-to-tail arrangements of the pallets of the bass note levers). The bass reeds of the LH end are sited towards the centre of the reed-pan, and are rectangular frames mounted on the pan surface. Each chamber has a wooden/chamois capped cross piece, and the reeds have aluminium long-scale reed-frames, blued steel reeds, the tongues secured with domed steel screws holding down brass cross pieces. Pan inset flush to bellows-frame. Reed Pans Main Labels: No circular pan label on this instrument. Reed Pans Stamps: None. Reed Pans Serial Numbers: None. Reed Pans Gasketry: Pale brown chamois. Reed Pans Right Hand Cross Pieces: RH: Most reed chambers have a chamois-capped wooden cross-piece. Reed Pans Left Hand Cross Pieces: LH: Most reed chambers have a chamois-capped wooden cross-piece. Reeds Quantity: 332 reeds. Reed Frame Material: Aluminium. Reed Tongue Material: Blued steel reed-tongues. Reed Frame Shape: Tapered long-scale round-ended aluminium reed frames, with surface mounted rectangular frames used on most of the bass reeds. Reed Tongue Profile: Parallel. Reed Securing Screws: Two small flat steel securing screws. Stamps on Reed Frames: Note names stamped on reed-frames. |
